Wooden cutting boards are an essential kitchen tool that gets a lot of use when cooking. But when it comes time to clean them, we’re not sure exactly the best way to go about it. Can you throw them into the dishwasher or do they need to be hand cleaned? Also, can you use dish soap to clean them? Here’s everything you need to know about cleaning a wooden cutting board.

Can You Wash It with Soap?

Never put a wooden cutting board through the dishwasher. Instead, gently clean it by hand with dish soap and warm water. Make sure you rinse the board well.

How Should You Dry It?

Prolong your cutting boards lifespan by drying it properly after your wash it and don’t let it sit wet in the sink. Quickly clean off anything that’s damp as soon as you’re finished using it. After you’ve washed the board, pat it dry with a kitchen towel and let it sit upright to dry.

Sanitizing and Disinfecting

To get rid of set-in stains, sprinkle coarse salt on the area and rub it with a half a lemon, cut side down. For smells and bacteria, use vinegar with a bit of water and spray the surface of the board. Let it sit for a few minutes and then wash and dry it.
