There’s nothing like a steaming mug of hot chocolate to help warm you up on a cold winter day. While you can’t go wrong with the classic version, there are plenty of ways to spice it up with some added ingredients that can take your hot chocolate to the next level. Keep it simple with peppermint or throw in some liquor for a boozy treat. Be sure to top it all off with some marshmallows and whipped cream, then cozy up under a blanket and enjoy by the fire. Here are a few of our favorite takes.

Peppermint Hot Chocolate

Chocolate and mint make an excellent pair, even when the holidays are over. Put your leftover candy canes to good use with this recipe from Sift and Simmer. It calls for peppermint extract, though we find the canes make for excellent stirrers.

Gingerbread White Hot Chocolate

For those in search of something sweet who aren’t big fans of chocolate, be sure to give this gingerbread white hot chocolate a try. The recipe calls for bourbon, but it can also be made without.

Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate

Name a better duo—we’ll wait. The creator of this recipe describes it as “insanely good”, and we couldn’t agree more!
