Vegetable purée always comes in handy when you have it in your fridge. You can use it in soups, as a sauce base, as a sandwich spread, and as an ingredient in various meals. Now, you can buy some in the grocery store, but we recommend making your own because it’s quite easy to do it. Here is how.

Step by Step Vegetable Purée

The first thing you need to do is to select the vegetable you want to turn into a purée. Make sure you pick out the best and most fresh veggies and avoid those with soft spots and bruises. Then, peel them if necessary and cut them into equal pieces.

Cook them in a steamer basket until they become soft enough for the fork to easily pass through them. Keep in mind that different veggies have different cooking times. If you don’t have a steamer basket, don’t boil them. A better option is to then roast them in an oven.

After the vegetables are cooked, put them in a food processor or blender and add some butter and seasoning. The best way to go is salt and black pepper, but you can also throw in some other spices if you want to make it more fun.

Blend the veggies until you achieve the desired consistency. In case you want to achieve thinner consistency, add some water.

Before you wrap everything up, taste the purée to see if you need to season it a bit more. Store it in a fridge if you will use it in the next couple of days, or freeze it in ice cube trays if not.
