Sure, buying corn tortillas for tacos or quesadillas in the grocery store may be an easier choice. But making your own corn tortillas will make a world of difference. And they are not that hard to make.

Here is How to Make Great Corn Tortillas

In order to make great corn tortillas, you have to start with quality masa harina. From there, combine masa and salt in a bowl and gradually add water while kneading the dough. Go with the feeling and make sure that the dough feels smooth and soft but also uniform. Then cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let it rest for around 10 minutes.

Next, you will need to split the dough into smaller balls, with the size depending on your preferences. Then, place the ball between two pieces of plastic wrap and press it using a cutting board, iron skillet, or something heavy. If you have a tortilla press, even better.

All that’s left to do is heat a skillet on medium heat and cook the tortillas for around 30 seconds on each side or until the edges start to lift. Don’t worry; if they bubble, that is a good sign. Finally, pack them with your favorite ingredients and dig in.

Tips for Making Great Corn Tortillas

The most important thing about making tortillas is not to complicate it. The three basic ingredients—masa harina, salt, and water—are all you need. As we previously mentioned, also make sure to have quality masa, as it can make or break (literarily) your tortilla. And finally, practice makes perfect. Keep making tortillas until you learn the right ratio between ingredients, how the dough should feel, and what’s their ideal size.
