Golumpki is a Polish version of a very popular European dish made up of cabbage leaves stuffed with a mincemeat filling. They’re super delicious and the perfect food to cook in the winter time when you’re looking for satisfying, warming, filling meals to eat. If you want to try it out for yourself, here is a simple recipe that you can use.

Ingredients:

  • 1 head of cabbage
  • 2 pounds of ground beef
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup of rice
  • 1/2 cup of bread crumbs
  • 1 can tomato soup
  • 3 ounces tomato paste
  • Sugar
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 3 cups white vinegar

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 F.
  2. In a large stock pot, place your cabbage. Cover in water and add white vinegar. Bring to a boil until the leaves soften.
  3. Drain the cabbage and set aside to cool. Once cool, remove the leaves, removing the tough veiny part.
  4. In a bowl, combine beef, chopped onion, cooked rice, bread crumbs, egg, and salt and pepper. Combine with your hands until it’s a moist, meatloaf consistency. Add water or another egg if it feels dry.
  5. Lay down a cooked cabbage leaf, place some meat mixture on top, and wrap. Continue until you’ve used all your meat mixture.
  6. Place the stuffed cabbage into a pan, wrapped edges down.
  7. Combine tomato soup, tomato pasta, and a pinch of sugar. Pour it over the top of the cabbage rolls. Bake for an hour and a half.
