Washing dishes is one of the most boring household chores, but a dishwasher can help you skip it—or at least makes things easier. Despite its many benefits, this machine isn’t magical and there are some dishes that shouldn’t be washed inside it, including these five.

Cast Iron

Cast iron pots and pans aren’t exactly affordable and you should wash them by hand to expand their life span because you can strip them of seasoning by using the dishwasher.

Wood

Wooden cutting boards, bowls, spoons, and other utensils with wooden handles are best left out of the dishwasher because they shouldn’t be left soaking in the water for too long.

Sharp Knives

Washing sharp knives inside a dishwasher can dull and corrode them, but it’s also best avoided because it’s a safety hazard.

Dishes With Paint/Prints

If you have any dishes that have been hand-painted or feature some sort of a print, keep them outside the dishwasher so they wouldn’t start fading away due to heat and strong detergent.

Blender/Food Processor

Most manufacturers say that some parts of blender/food processor are dishwasher-safe, but they’re best washed by hand. The dishwasher can weaken and discolor the plastic parts and potently dull the blades.
