If you’re a fan of crispy tofu, you’ve got to press it. Removing all the excess liquid from the tofu block before cooking allows the edges to become much more crispy.

It also makes the tofu firmer, which means it won’t fall apart as much when you prepare it. Now that we’ve convinced you that pressing your tofu is of utmost importance, here are three ways to press your tofu.

Buy a Tofu Press

The easiest way to press tofu is definitely with a tofu press. There are tons of these online that are specifically made to squeeze the liquid out and catch it at the bottom. It’s super simple and you’re sure to get the same results every time.

Stack a Pan and Heavy Items on Top

The “homemade” tofu press requires a bit more effort, but it’s still pretty simple. First, you’ll want to wrap your tofu in a towel to catch any liquid. Then, take the heaviest pan you have (cast iron is great for this) and put it on top of the block. If your pan isn’t so heavy, you can add a few cookbooks or other heavy items.

On a Slanted Baking Sheet

If you really want to get fancy with your homemade tofu press, you can put it at an angle so that the water drips away. You’ll want to put the tofu on a baking sheet to one side, with the heavy items on top. Then, take a folded towel and put it under the baking sheet on the side with the tofu. Now the water will slide down the baking sheet, away from the tofu.
