If you’re taking some shortcuts this Thanksgiving, there is nothing to feel bad about. With life being as hectic as it is, not everyone has time to make their pie crusts, stocks, and cranberry sauces from scratch. That said, there are certainly ways to make store-bought cranberry sauce taste a little more homemade, so you can make it your own.

Spice It Up

Nothing screams fall quite like cinnamon, cloves, allspice, and nutmeg. Adding these spices to your sauce will give your guests a warm and fuzzy feeling. You can also add some heat by throwing in some hot sauce or chili flakes.

A Little Bit of Zing

Citrus is a wonderful way to brighten up a canned sauce. Pour in a couple of teaspoons of orange juice and a bit of orange zest to liven up the flavor.

Captivating Crunch

Playing with textures is a surefire way to upgrade your store-bought sauce. A little bit of crunch will not go amiss. Stir in some chopped nuts (we love the candied kind) or sprinkle them on top as a delicious garnish.
