Sausages are fantastic regardless of their shape and form. They can be a perfect side dish, a star of the show, or just a casual snack to pair up with a glass of beer. However, for this to be the case, you have to cook them properly.

Despite being really simple to cook, sausages are also really easy to cook wrong. One misstep or slight lack of attention to detail and they are undercooked, overcooked, or just not as tasty as they should be. To avoid this from happening, check out these common mistakes you should avoid when cooking sausages.

Baking or Deep Frying Them

If you want to have great sausages, you need to cook them on a grill. The next best option is to do it in a pan over medium heat. On the other hand, baking or deep-frying methods should be a no-go. They will easily get overcooked and will turn out dry.

Cooking Them Straight Out of Fridge

One of the worst things you can do to sausage is throw it on heat as soon as you take it out of the fridge. This will cause uneven cooking as the outside of the sausage will cook much faster than the inside. Instead, take them out half an hour before cooking to allow them to get to room temperature.

Cutting Them Ahead of Time

Avoid making cuts or poking holes in sausages before cooking them, despite the common practice. This will let the previous fat out and result in a bland end-product. The same thing will happen if you start cutting them as soon as they are off the heat. Instead, you better let them rest for several minutes before digging in.
