The weather is getting colder, and there’s no doubt that it’s time for a cup of hot chocolate. But we’re not talking about just any run-of-the-mill, regular hot chocolate here. We’re talking about a top-notch, classic winter drink for when it’s pouring rain outside and you’re sitting by the window covered in a blanket. So, if you’re into that type of hot chocolate, here are two tips to turn it from just average to amazing.

Use Actual Chocolate

Yep, you’ve heard it right, use real chocolate. Making your hot chocolate from a store-bought hot chocolate mix is nice and all, but there’s really no replacement for the real thing. You can either upgrade your mix-based hot chocolate with a few pieces of actual chocolate, or melt about a 1/3 family-size chocolate bar in the microwave along with the necessary amount of milk, then mix it all together until there are no chocolate lumps left.

Whipped Cream

Well, you don’t really need to do much for this one—just buy some canned whipped cream. When you’re all done with making the hot chocolate, spray a generous amount of whipped cream on top and you got yourself a luxurious café level hot chocolate.
